Photos of an EPDM flat roof in Fulham
The roof here has been stripped and insulation has
already been laid and screwed down. The EPDM rubber roofing
membrane has been unrolled and laid out in position on the clean dry
base, so we know it's in the correct position. Now glue is applied
ready for the EPDM membrane to be smoothly laid
over it.
The EPDM rubber sheet is laid on the glue
and any air is squeezed out using a rubber bladed squeegee tool.
Look closely and you can see that there is a spare piece of
insulation lying over a skylight hole on the area of the
roof that hasn't been covered yet. You can see another
piece which has been placed over the other hole in the new rubber. A
roof is a dangerous workplace and by placing the
spare insulation over the hole it prevents one of us falling down
the hole. When the EPDM rubber sheet has been laid
we will move all stored materials over to the other side of the
roof and prepare for laying the uncovered side.
The uncovered side of the roof is prepared and
laid, ready for the centre joint to be made.
Here you can see the centre joint has been finished and so has the
leading edge that forms the drip. As this edge is formed out of EPDM in a continuous movement, the roof
is very streamlined, making it maintenance-free. There are no
additional edges that could allow slow water ingress over the years.
Apart from the final sweep over and clearing of our tools, this is a
finished roof with the skylights in position. Also
you can see the finish to the flashings to the right of the chimneys
on the left.
